“THE GENIUS OF MOZART”
On Saturday, May 17th, at 8pm, the Waterbury Chorale, under the direction of our music director/organist Joseph Jacovino, will present “The Genius of Mozart” here at St. Rose Church. This all-Mozart concert will feature the “Grand Mass in C minor, K.427, which music historians have regarded as one of the top three chorale masterpiece settings of the “Latin Mass”, on a par with Bach’s B minor mass, and Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis”. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) is considered by many experts to be the greatest musical genius/composer of all time. His musical outpouring during his brief life span of 35 years was amazing and his music has become timeless in nature, and one of the greatest and profound accomplishments of mankind. Mozart composed this monumental work when he was only 26, and it is one of his greatest choral works, along with the “Requiem Mass”.
The concert will feature 80 singers from the Waterbury Chorale, the 24 piece Waterbury Chorale Orchestra, and professional vocal soloists Marissa Famiglietti, Marianna Vagnini, Jeffrey Hartman, and Shae Apland. Joseph Jacovino will be the conductor.
Also on the program will be the 1st movement of the Symphony #40 in G minor, K.550, and the “Ave Verum Corpus” K.618, which is considered by many musicologists to be the “most perfect” choral piece ever written. Please come and experience this musical masterpiece celebrating the beauty and reverence of the “Roman Catholic Latin Mass”.
